Turning Basin Capital was formed in 2013, to capitalize on our partners’ extensive experience working with privately-held companies as investors and advisors.
The Managing Partners of Turning Basin Capital have almost 60 combined years of experience. We partner with entrepreneurial companies, provide the capital and strategic advice needed to achieve their objectives, and bring attractive investment opportunities to our investors.
The firm was formed as an affiliate of investment bank Ewing Bemiss & Co. Ewing Bemiss built a strong reputation and a leading position in the infrastructure, energy and industrial sectors over 20 years of advising privately-held companies with respect to mergers and acquisitions and capital formation transactions.
Ewing Bemiss also established a highly successful track record as a principal investor in lower middle-market transactions in a wide range of industries, completing and successfully exiting seven investments.
Tom was a founding member of Turning Basin Capital in 2013. For 20 years prior to joining Turning Basin Capital, Tom provided investment banking services, including M&A advisory services and public and private capital formation with a focus on middle-market industrial and infrastructure service industries. Tom was President and Senior Managing Director of Ewing Bemiss, where he led the practice focused on advising companies in the infrastructure and industrial services sector.
Prior to joining Ewing Bemiss 2002, Tom was a Director with First Union Securities’ Investment Banking Group (now Wells Fargo Advisors), and prior to that, was a Vice President with Dain Rauscher Securities, a leading regional investment bank in the Texas / Southwest region.
He is a graduate of the University of Virginia (B.S. in Commerce) and has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University).

Henry was a founding member of Turning Basin Capital in 2013. Henry is also a founding partner of Sparkstone Capital LLC, a boutique investment banking firm focused the energy sector. Henry was a Senior Managing Director with Ewing Bemiss, until its acquisition by KPMG Corporate Finance, at which time he joined KPMG and led the firm’s energy investment banking practice.
Henry joined Ewing Bemiss in 1998 and was instrumental in building the firm’s market-leading practice focused on developers of renewable and distributed energy projects, and providers of products and services to the oil and gas sector. Henry was also active in Ewing Bemiss’ principal investing activities. Prior to joining Ewing Bemiss, he was a supervising senior tax consultant in the financial services area with KPMG Peat Marwick LLP in Richmond, Virginia.
He is a graduate of Villanova University (BS in Accountancy with Honors) and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Hugh was a founding member of Turning Basin in 2013 and serves on its Advisory Board and its Investment Committee. Hugh has more than 30 years’ experience in advising corporate clients, primarily in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, on financing and strategy.
Prior to founding Ewing Bemiss & Co. in 1992, he was a partner in Galleher & Company where he was active in private placements, leveraged buyouts, and mergers and acquisitions, and as a principal in leveraged buyouts and venture capital.
